If your work-related injury or illness results in a permanent impairment, you may wish to claim a permanent impairment lump sum payment.
In most cases, to be eligible for a permanent impairment payment a doctor must assess you as having a permanent impairment of at least 10%.
Permanent impairment lump sums are assessed according to Comcare's Guide to the Assessment of Degree of Permanent Impairment. The guide informs a doctor about how to make an assessment and what different impairments are available for the full range of bodily systems and functions.
A permanent impairment payment does not affect payments for benefits by Comcare. View the current permanent impairment payment rates.
Assessment of a permanent impairment is not a quick process. It usually takes at least four months before an assessment can be completed.
