Australian Public Service Commission
Monitoring Agency Health and Improving Performance

Monitoring the health of your organisation can be just as important as monitoring the health and wellbeing of your employees. High levels of corporate health are associated with high performing organisations, with characteristics such as lower levels of unscheduled absence, appropriate turnover and happier employees.

Drawing on seven factors articulated in the Australian Public Service Commission’s publication, Agency Health – Monitoring Agency Health and Improving Performance, this session explored information from the State of the Service Report 2006-07 to look at the health of the Australian Public Service.

Effective Risk Management

Effective risk management is critical to successful policy implementation, program delivery and project management. Public sector managers with responsibility for these areas are increasingly expected to demonstrate risk management capabilities as part of overall managerial skills.

This presentation provided an overview of enterprise-wide risk management frameworks applicable to program delivery and project management contexts in today’s public sector environment. It will also included practical strategies and techniques to manage risk and ensure alignment between organisational structure, processes, systems and culture as part of the implementation of policy, programs and projects.

John Holland Group
Changing the culture and measuring its impact

Effective injury prevention is more than just having an accredited and compliant safety management system and licence. To achieve effective injury prevention and leading practice safety performance, organisations must look beyond accreditation and compliance. Effective and successful safety management needs a system that is relevant, simple to use and robust in its foundations. This session provided delegates with an insight into John Holland Group’s safety management system and how it supported them through a significant cultural shift by empowering all employees to view safety as everyone’s business.

Comcare - Prevention & Injury Management Services
Optimising outcomes from your health, safety and rehabilitation service providers

Employers often engage specialists to assist them with health, safety and rehabilitation management. Taking a strategic approach to utilisation of external service providers can maximise an agency’s health and safety management plan and ensure that interventions are targeted and consistent with the organisation’s overall health and safety goals. Understanding where an intervention fits into your OH&S framework is crucial for achieving intended outcomes. This workshop applied an organisational approach to the engagement of health, safety and rehabilitation service providers and explored ways of getting value for money out of these services.
