Provides information on the Regulations, Approved Code of Practice and supporting guidance material.

Regulations

The requirements of the following document are included in the Occupational Health and Safety (Safety Standards) Regulations: Part 2 (Competency Requirements and Certification Standards for Users and Operators of Industrial Equipment):

  • National Occupational Health and Safety Certification Standard for Users and Operators of Industrial Equipment [NOHSC:1006 (1992)].

Text of these documents is available through links from the Comcare internet site to the government legislation (in the case of the regulations) and the Worksafe internet site for the National Standard.

Approved Code of Practice

 The following document is incorporated into the Approved Code of Practice on Occupational Health and Safety Competency Standards for the Operation of Loadshifting Equipment and Other Types of Specified Equipment:

  • National Guidelines for Occupational Health and Safety Competency Standards for the Operation of Loadshifting Equipment and Other Types of Specified Equipment [NOHSC:7019 (1992)].

Text of these National Guidelines is available through a link from the Comcare internet site (Approved Codes of Practice) to the Worksafe internet site.

Supporting guidance material

 The following guidance material is available from the Australian Safety and Compensation Council (ASCC) (formerly NOHSC):

  • National Guidelines for Integrating Occupational Health and Safety Competencies into National Industry Competency Standards [NOHSC:7025 (1998)] ascc.gov.au
  • Guidance on the Assessment of Occupational Health and Safety Competencies within Industry Competencies, (1998)

The following guidance material is available from State and Territory OHS jurisdictions:

  • Assessment Guidelines for National OHS Certification Standard for Users and Operators of Industrial Equipment.
  • Assessment instruments for certificate classes in the following categories:
  • Scaffolding and rigging,
  • Crane and hoist operation,
  • Pressure equipment ,
  • Loadshifting equipment, and
  • Other specified equipment.

Information for Intending Assessors for Classes of OHS Certificates in the National OHS Certification Standard for Users and Operators of Industrial Equipment.

Note - The ACT is not yet issuing national certificates but intends to implement new regulations based on the requirements of the National Standard, in 1999, and will then be a full partner in the National Certification Scheme.
