The SRC Act provides for payment of lump sum compensation for permanent impairment and non-economic loss resulting from a work-related injury. Permanent impairment lump sums are assessed according to Comcare's Guide to the assessment of the degree of permanent impairment (the Guide). The guide informs a doctor about how to make an assessment and what different impairments are available for the full range of bodily systems and functions.
Effective from 1 December 2011
On 2 November 2011, the Minister for Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, approved Edition 2.1 of the Guide to the Assessment of the Degree of Permanent Impairment. Comcare advises determining authorities and medical assessors to be aware that Edition 2.1, which varies the Second Edition of the Guide, will come into effect from 1 December 2011. This means that claims for permanent impairment lodged on and after 1 December 2011 will be assessed under Edition 2.1 of the Guide.
Edition 2.1 of the Guide is now available electronically. Hardcopies of Edition 2.1 are also available for a cost of $30.00 (AUD).
Please note that on and from 1 December 2011, the Second Edition of the Guide can no longer be used for the assessment of permanent impairment and non-economic loss. After this date, assessors will need to refer to Edition 2.1 of the Guide.
