Under section 34 of the SRC Act Comcare establishes criteria and operational standards for rehabilitation providers. These standards are designed to ensure that rehabilitation providers deliver high quality services that contribute to successful return to work outcomes.
Operational standards include both outcome and service standards which enable Comcare to review performance not only against the performance of their peers but also to provide consistency in the evaluation of performance. Qualitative and quantitative information is used for performance assessments.
In addition to ongoing performance assessments, all rehabilitation providers are subject to a formal renewal process with Comcare every three years.
The current approval period runs from 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2013.
The outcome standards consist of three measures:
1. Return to work rate
2. Median cost of rehabilitation programs
3. Return to work durability
Approval period | Return To Work rate | Median cost of Rehabilitation programs | Return To Work durability |
| 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2013 | Same employer - 90% New Employer - 60% | $2980 | 85% |
For full details of the outcome standards refer to the new Operational standards.
