Self Insurers

The Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 enables certain Commonwealth authorities and eligible corporations to apply to the Commission for a license to self-insure their workers’ compensation liabilities and/or claims management. These organisations also automatically transfer to the Commonwealth's occupational health and safety legislation (effective 15 March 2007).

Comcare offers licensees and their workers’ compensation providers a variety of tailored injury prevention and injury management training programs for supervisors, rehabilitation case managers, OHS practitioners and claims managers designed to:

  • give managers and supervisors an improved understanding of their roles and responsibilities under the SRC Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • enable accuracy, consistency and fairness in decision making under the SRC Act.
  • assist in achieving compliance under the OHS Act.

Abridged training for Health and Safety Representatives

Health and Safety Representatives in organisations transferring to the Commonwealth jurisdiction are now able to undertake training to ensure their understanding of their roles and responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety regulatory framework administered by Comcare.
