To mark the third week (23 October – 29 October) of Health and Safety month and in line with Safe Work Australia, the focus is on Safety in the workplace. A safe workplace is vital to worker’s health, wellbeing and a ‘de-stressed mind and body’.
If health and safety is achieved the results directly benefit the organisation through higher productivity, workforce participation and collaboration. Reducing death, injury and disease in the workplace and ensure everyone’s right to return home safely from a day’s work is not just good for your organisation or the right thing to do, but is also the law.
The 1 January 2012 marks an important date in the history of Work Health and Safety laws in Australia. These laws will be harmonised putting every Australian worker under the same legislation. This is a unique time and it’s important that employers and employees are prepared and understand the new and significant changes.
Safe Work Australia can give you ideas and resources to help employers get involved. Why not Take10@10? Employers can take the opportunity to take ten minutes at 10am to talk about the new WHS laws as well as safety in the workplace.
Keep up to date on the new Work Health and Safety laws – it’s your business to know.
Be healthy, stay safe!
