2013 Comcare Work Health and Safety Award Winners Announced

Organisations and individuals who have achieved excellence in workplace health and safety, rehabilitation and return to work were recognised and celebrated at the 2013 Comcare Work Health and Safety Awards.

Presented at a gala dinner held at The Great Hall, Parliament House, outstanding individuals and organisations working in the Comcare health and safety jurisdiction were acknowledged for their commitment to workplace health and safety.

Comcare CEO Paul O’Connor said that record entries were received and an outstanding field of finalists was selected.

“The awards demonstrate that organisations and individuals in the Comcare scheme continue to develop new and innovative ways to improve worker and workplace health and safety,” Mr O’Connor said.

”It is Comcare’s number one priority and as the awards showcase, it’s a commitment being made within workplaces across our jurisdiction. It’s incredibly important we stop, recognise and applaud that effort together,” he said.

The recipients in each of the categories were:

Category one—Workplace Health and Wellbeing Initiative

Bis Industries

Category two—Workplace Health and Safety Management System

Royal Australian Air Force—303 Squadron Australian Air Force Cadets

Category three—Solution to an Identified Workplace Health and Safety Hazard

Two winners:

Bis Industries and Royal Australian Navy—HMAS Warramunga

Category four—Individual Contribution to Health and Safety

a. An individual

Brendan Ross, bioCSL

b. An individual with responsibility for WHS as part of their duties

Robert Williams, Department of Defence—Joint Health Command

Category five—Health and Safety Representative of the Year

Nathan East, Pacific National Rail—Asciano Group

Category six—Rehabilitation and Return to Work Management

Department of Human Services

Category seven—Individual Contribution to Rehabilitation and Return to Work

Glenn Woodward, Department of Infrastructure and Transport

Category eight—Claims Manager of the Year
