2009-10 Portfolio Budget Statements released

Following the release of the 2009–10 Budget by the Federal Treasurer, Wayne Swan on 12 May 2009, the Portfolio Budget Statements (PBS) for the Education, Employment and Workplace Relations have been released.

The 2009–10 PBS includes a chapter on Comcare, which outlines the strategic direction, outcomes, planned performance and financial estimates for 2009-10 and future years.

While the 2009–10 PBS for Comcare indicates no new major budgetary measures, a number of factors will affect the agency in 2009–10. These include:

any outcomes from the review of the Comcare Scheme
the impact of the global financial crisis
the Government’s commitment to national harmonisation of occupational health and safety arrangements.

While in previous years Comcare has reported on one outcome, in 2009–10 Comcare will report on three outcomes to show the three related but separate legislative responsibilities of the agency.

This change aims to achieve greater transparency around the deliverables, performance measures and resources for each outcome Comcare is responsible for delivering on behalf of the Government.
