In December 2008 the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC) endorsed a review of the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) Training Course Accreditation Program.
The objectives of the review were to provide advice to the SRCC on the:
a) capacity of the current accreditation model to deliver best practice for the HSR education and training to the jurisdiction
b) effectiveness of the assessment process in delivering cost effective and quality training courses to the jurisdiction
c) capacity of the learning objectives contained in the Guidelines to provide HSRs with the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake their roles as prescribed in the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1991.
During March and October 2009 the consultants undertook a review involving consultation with HSRs, employers, self-insurers, unions, Comcare investigators, SRCC members, occupational health and safety training panel members, HSR training providers and Comcare staff.
Comcare is reviewing the recommendations made in the Review Report, and will consider a revised HSR training course accreditation model.
