Fire emergency
|
- Employees working in document store are not aware of a fire emergency.
- Employees are not trained in response to the outbreak of fire in their area.
- There is no fire extinguisher located in the area.
- Fire extinguisher is unsuitable for an electrical fire
- The fire extinguisher has not been serviced.

- Check that fire alarm and evacuation signals and public address announcements are operational.
- Check that employees working in the document store are able to hear announcements clearly.
- Ensure that employees working in document store know how to:
- communicate with staff managing an evacuation
- close document store to prevent spread of fire and protect vital documents from destruction
- exit the area safely.
- Arrange for instruction to be given in the correct use of fire extinguishers.
- Check that the fire extinguisher in the store is of appropriate type and has been serviced recently.

Bomb threats
|
- A package is found which may be a bomb.
- An employee receives a telephone bomb threat.
|
- Ensure that all store employees are trained in how to deal with a suspicious package.
- Ensure that employees are given instruction in how to question a caller to obtain information which will help deal with the threat.
- Procedures to be followed are documented and employees know who to contact for assistance.

Biological hazard
|
- An package is opened which reveals an unidentified powder or substance.
|
- Ensure that employees are trained to recognise a possibly suspicious package.
- Employees have been given training in procedures to be followed and who to contact in event of a potential biological emergency.
