Workplaces requiring a first aid room
A dedicated first aid room is recommended for workplaces
- with more than 200 employees in workplaces where injury risk is low
- with more than 25 employees in workplaces where injury risk is high.
Requirements for a first aid room
A first aid room should
- be suitably located and accessible
- have convenient access for transport of ill or injured employees
- be well lit
- be well ventilated
- have easy access to toilets and hand washing facilities
- be of sufficient size to allow for easy movement within the room and allow for stretcher access by ambulance/medical services
- have an entrance that is clearly marked 'first aid'
- not be used by people other than employees of the employer
- be under the control of the first aid officer.
Access to the services of a medical centre
In high risk workplaces, arrangements should be in place to access the services of a medical centre in an emergency situation.
