Solution

Check it

Inadequate space

  • Photocopy room is too small to accommodate equipment and allow for work to be performed.

  • Workbench space insufficient or unsuitable for work tasks.
  • Provide a workbench or table with a working surface which is large enough and at the correct height for efficient and ergonomically correct use for assembly, collation, binding and drilling of multiple copies of photocopied documents.
  • Remove any non-essential equipment to allow increased workspace on workbench.

Housekeeping

  • Discarded materials and waste left by an earlier user.
  • Include workbench in HS checklist for regular inspection.
  • Provide bin for disposal of waste materials.
  • Post signs to remind users to clear up after use.

Inadequate storage for consumables

  • Inadequate storage for range and volume of photocopy papers and other consumable materials required on a regular basis.
  • Identify and list all consumable materials needed in the photocopy room and establish inventory levels to be maintained for these.
  • Provide enclosed storage for soilable materials adjacent to / underneath photocopier.
  • Provide shelf storage for non-soilable materials adjacent to / above workbench.
  • Label storage positions to ensure storage plan is able to be monitored and maintained.

Electrically powered machines

  • Electric machines left switched on after use.
    (eg. electric hole drilling machine)
  • Select tools which have a warning lamp fitted.
  • Apply sticker to tools reminding users to switch off at wall socket when finished.
