Employers have a duty of care to help prevent their employees developing DVT while travelling and in the office.
Some employees need to undertake frequent long distance air travel as part of their jobs. Employers may need to undertake a risk analysis to determine the risk of exposure to employees, in the light of current medical advice.
Current medical information on DVT should be made available to all employees planning to travel by air. This will enable employees to be better informed and able to recognise potential problems or know to consult their doctor before travelling by air.
Employers may also need to undertake a risk analysis of office-based staff, particularly if employees are mostly desk-bound.
