Employers are responsible for ensuring not only the physical but also the psychological health and safety of their employees.

Consultation is essential when addressing work-related stress, and employers need to involve both employees and health and safety representatives (HSRs) in:

  • identifying the risks to psychological health in the workplace 
  • developing and implementing measures to eliminate or control them as far as is reasonably practicable.

Employers must also provide employees with the information, instruction, training and supervision necessary to do their job in a way that is safe and without risk to their psychological health.
