Major Hazard Facility notification, licencing and certification

Notification of a Major Hazard Facility

Employers must notify Comcare if they meet the definition of a potential major hazard facility under Part 9 of the Occupational Health and Safety (Safety Standards) Regulations 1994. Once a facility is classified as a major hazard facility, the employer must either apply for a licence to operate the facility or apply for a certificate of compliance if regulated by another comparable Commonwealth scheme.

Major Hazard Facility Licence application

The licence application form includes Part A and Part B. This provides the Commission with sufficient information to determine if the classified major hazard facility should be issued a licence to operate.

Certificate of Compliance application

The certificate of compliance is issued to a classified major hazard facility if the existing Commonwealth scheme and the OHS regulatory scheme are comparable and the employer is compliant with that existing Commonwealth Scheme.
