Message from the Chairperson - Geoff Gronow ESM ED
As a stakeholder in the Australian maritime industry, I am pleased to invite you and your colleagues to the 2008 Seacare Awards & Conference. These events will be held on Thursday 16 October at Doltone House, Pyrmont Point in Sydney.
The Seacare Awards & Conference have become showcase events for the Seacare Authority and for the maritime industry generally. This will be the fourth time these events have been held. They highlight the commitment of the industry to injury prevention and to achieving positive outcomes for injured seafarers. The Awards & Conference also provide valuable forums for interaction, exchange, learning and celebrating.
The theme of the 2008 Seacare Conference is Best Practice OHS in the Australian Maritime Industry. It features presentations from prominent industry figures on the major issues confronting the Seacare scheme, along with experts with experience in improving OHS outcomes in other high-risk industries and with implementing best practice strategies.
Following the Conference, the 2008 Seacare Awards presentation dinner will be held and the winners of the four Seacare Awards announced. The Awards acknowledge the most successful initiatives by employers, operators, seafarers and others who are leading the way in best practice OHS as well as rehabilitation and return to work programs.
It is important to note that the Seacare Awards & Conference are dependent on those organisations and individuals that support them. In this regard, I wish to sincerely thank all of the event sponsors as well as nominees for Seacare Awards for making these industry events possible.
The 2008 Seacare Awards & Conference promise to inspire participants to seek new and better ways to secure the OHS of seafarers and to minimise the human and financial cost of workplace injury and illness in the maritime industry. I look forward to seeing you there!
