2006 Safety Awards Winners
Minister Announces Winners of Safety Awards
The Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Kevin Andrews, presented the annual Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission Safety Awards in Canberra on the evening of 18 October 2006.
The award categories recognised the importance of injury prevention and injury management. The five categories of awards were:
- Leadership Award for Injury Prevention and Management
- Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System
- Best Solution to an Identified Workplace Health and Safety Issue
- Best Individual Contribution to Health and Safety; and
- Rehabilitation and Return to Work.
Nominations were invited from all agencies in the Commonwealth occupational health and safety and/or workers’ compensation jurisdiction.
In the Leadership in Injury Prevention and Management Category the winner was Centrelink, Area Central and Northern Queensland for its management of occupational health and safety during Centrelink’s response to Tropical Cyclones Larry and Monica.
Visionstream was the winner of the Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System Category for its Project 5 and Arrive Alive After 5 programmes.
The Best Solution to an Identified Workplace Health and Safety Issue Category was won by the Royal Australian Navy for its HMAS Anzac Pontoon.
The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation’s Michael Hauptmann won the Best Individual Contribution to Health and Safety award for his initiatives to reduce manual handling injuries.
In the Rehabilitation and Return to Work Category the winner was Linfox Australia and Linfox Armaguard for their innovative strategies to facilitate site engagement in the return to work process and improve outcomes.

Commended: Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation – Marine and Atmospheric Research Division Diving Management System

REHABILITATION AND RETURN TO WORK CATEGORY

Highly Commended: Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service – Action through Intervention.
