The Commission has developed Guidelines and a timetable to govern its consideration of self-insurance licence applications.

Moratorium on new companies joining Comcare

On 11 December 2007, the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, the Hon Julia Gillard MP, announced that 'the Rudd Government has placed a moratorium on new applications from private corporations wanting to move to the Comcare workers' compensation scheme'. The Media Release added that 'companies that have already been declared eligible to apply for a self-insurance licence by the previous Liberal government will not be affected by the moratorium'.

In accordance with this policy the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission will continue to consider licence applications from corporations that have been declared eligible to apply for a licence.
