Invitation to comment on Comcare’s revised rehabilitation guidelines

Comcare has revised its 2005 Rehabilitation Guidelines and is preparing to issue new Rehabilitation Guidelines for 2011. The guidelines are for rehabilitation authorities who are the principal officers of Commonwealth authorities and licensed corporations who have a responsibility to provide rehabilitation to their injured workers in accordance with the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988.

Why are the guidelines being revised?

The current guidelines were issued in 2005 and since then there has been legislative amendments and policy developments to be included in the revised guidelines.

The revised guidelines will provide clarity and authority to the role of the rehabilitation authority, employers and rehabilitation case managers, in terms of effective rehabilitation to injured workers.

We have created a flowchart diagram to explain how the Section 41 rehabiliation guidelines fit in with broader legislation.

Where can you find the new draft guidelines?

You can find the draft of the proposed guidelines here:

The revised Rehabilitation Guidelines will become a legislative instrument and may be modified in presentation in order to satisfy the requirements of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003.

How to make a submission

Written submissions must be made by 31 May 2011. Please note that electronic submissions are preferred.
