Public consultation open on proposal to update the GHS under the model WHS laws (News)
18 July 2019
Safe Work Australia is seeking feedback on the proposal to adopt an updated edition.
The third revised edition of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS 3) was implemented under the model Work Health and Safety laws on 1 January 2017.
As Australia’s transition to the GHS is now complete, Safe Work Australia believes it is time to move beyond GHS 3 to ensure Australia’s classification and labelling requirements for workplace chemicals are aligned with its key trading partners, as they move towards implementing the 7th revised edition of the GHS (GHS 7).
To ensure any changes to Australia’s classification and hazard communication requirements for workplace hazardous chemicals are implemented in a way which minimises the impact of any implementation on industry, Safe Work Australia is seeking stakeholder feedback.
Safe Work Australia is asking stakeholders that have an interest in hazardous chemicals in the workplace to stay informed and provide feedback by subscribing to their hazardous chemicals mailing list, and go to their consultation platform, Engage to register and have your say.
The consultation is open until Sunday 28 July 2019.
