Nominations open for 2016 Comcare WHS Awards (Media release)

04 April 2016

Nominations are now open for the 2016 Comcare Work Health and Safety Awards.

This year’s event introduces new award categories that better reflect current work to minimise harm and return employees to work and good health. The categories also support the 2016 conference theme, Shaping the future through partnerships and participation.

Comcare Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Taylor said it was important to acknowledge organisations and individuals who promote safe, healthy and productive workplaces for the more than 400,000 employees in the jurisdiction.

“The awards are an opportunity for us to showcase leadership and commitment to return to work and rehabilitation outcomes,” Ms Taylor said.

“We look forward to celebrating the contribution organisations and individuals make through innovation, collaboration and business improvement. Their achievements will inspire others to reduce injury and harm in the workplace.”

The 2016 awards have four categories:

Category one—Prevention Award: recognising the work organisations undertake to ensure their workplaces provide a healthy and safe environment for employees by addressing the physical and/or psychosocial risk factors to prevent an incident from occurring.

Category two—Proactive Employer Award: recognising work by organisations to proactively support their employees to manage and prevent further harm following an incident.

Category three—Recovery at and Return to Work Award: recognising organisations that demonstrate excellence in recovery at and return to work, programs or systems, for ill or injured employees.

Category four—Individual Contribution Award: recognising individuals whose contributions have made an exceptional difference to their workplace. There are two awards in this category – for an individual, and an individual with formal responsibility for health and safety or recovery and return to work.

Nominations close on Friday 13 May 2016.

The awards will be presented during the 2016 Comcare National Conference which runs from 13-14 September 2016 at the National Convention Centre in Canberra, providing a platform for initiatives profiled through the program to be promoted and shared across the jurisdiction.
