Working at Comcare

Employees of Comcare are engaged under the Public Service Act 1999 (PS Act) and conditions of service and salary scales are set out in the Comcare Enterprise Agreement 2016–2019 (EA) and s.24(1) Determination that supplements specific provisions of the EA. This Determination is made under the PS Act and means that all eligible employees covered by the EA will receive the maximum of a six per cent salary increase over three years as below:

  • two per cent on 12 April 2019
  • two per cent on 12 April 2020
  • two per cent on 12 April 2021

Comcare expects everyone within the organisation to uphold the Australian Public Service (APS) Values and the Code of Conduct.

Australian Citizenship is required for employment with Comcare. The Public Service Act 1999 provides that an agency must not employ a person who is not an Australian citizen as an APS employee; unless it is considered appropriate to do so. However a waiver may be appropriate in exceptional circumstances where it is essential to the efficiency and effectiveness of Comcare’s operations and non-citizens who are in the process of obtaining citizenship may be appointed to positions within Comcare.

If you have received a redundancy benefit from an APS agency, or from the Australian Parliamentary Service you may be subject to an exclusion period before you can be engaged as an ongoing employee.  Your letter of voluntary redundancy will state the exclusion period.

Security and character clearance

Your employment is subject to you satisfying the CEO (or delegate) of your suitability as a fit and proper person for engagement as an APS employee and to perform your specific duties. This will be assessed through a police check and other character checks as appropriate.

Other security clearances

If you are selected for a ‘Designated Security Assessment Position’ or a ‘Position of Trust’ you will be required to undergo and must be granted a security clearance.

Essential formal qualifications

If your position requires you to have a formal qualification, you will need to provide proof of your academic/professional qualifications.  Any claims you make with regard to academic and/or professional qualifications must be true and be capable of being verified with the relevant institution.

Health assessment

It is a condition of your employment that you meet certain medical requirements. A health assessment will be conducted to ensure you have the physical and mental capacity to meet the requirements of the position and to identify any adjustments that may need to be made in the workplace. The assessment will be conducted by a Health Professional of Comcare’s choice.

Your employment will be subject to a six month probation.
