Working with Comcare

Comcare partners with workers, their employers and unions to keep workers healthy and safe, and reduce the incidence and cost of workplace injury and disease. Comcare’s focus is on keeping workers healthy and safe at work as well as supporting them when they are injured.

Comcare has both a regulatory and work health and safety prevention arm and works with persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) to address work health and safety of workers. Comcare administers the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011.

What do I need to consider?

  • Comcare’s regulatory framework includes compliance activities such as inspections, audit and fines and notices to help protect the health, safety and welfare of workers and to promote an early and safe return to work. It also promotes proactive prevention work to reduce harm in the workplace.
  • Prevention of hazards—Comcare works in partnership with PCBUs and workers to prevent workplace injuries.
  • Return to work—Comcare empowers PCBUs to maintain an injured worker at work or to achieve an early, safe and durable return to work.
  • Comcare works to help Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) be as effective as possible in representing workers in the workplace and preventing workplace harm.
  • Comcare can provide information and education on managing work health and safety through the WHS Helpdesk and various PCBU forums.

Comcare provides numerous resources and guidance and works with PCBUs to address their obligations under the WHS Act to provide a workplace safe from harm and address the work health and safety of workers.
