On 11 April 2019 the Australian Government assumed a caretaker role, with an election to be held 18 May 2019.
Information on websites maintained by Comcare will be published in accordance with the Guidance on Caretaker Conventions until after the election and conclusion of the caretaker period.

Roles of Comcare and the SRCC

Comcare supports participation and productivity by working with employers and employees to keep workers healthy and safe by minimizing harm in the workplaces we cover.

Comcare has functions and responsibilities under the Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (SRC Act), the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) and the Asbestos-related Claims (Management of Commonwealth Liabilities) Act 2005. We provide expert advice and services to the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC) and the Seacare Authority, and manage the Commonwealth's asbestos-related claims liabilities.

The SRCC is established under the SRC Act. The SRCC has functions and powers related to the granting, monitoring and extension to self-insurance licenses for private sector entities and some Commonwealth authorities. The SRCC also has functions relating to setting premium guidelines and regulatory contribution guidelines for Comcare.
