Work Health and Safety Act (WHS Act)

Legislative duties and responsibilities of organisations under the WHS Act.


Comcare administers the Commonwealth Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011 and is the national regulator for work health and safety.

We report on outcomes and our activities which support employers to meet their duties and obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act (WHS Act).

Inspections are one part of Comcare’s regulatory activities and aim to maintain and develop safe and healthy workplaces and compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act).

Decisions which can be reviewed include issuing of an improvement notice, cancelling of a provisional improvement notice or a work health and safety licence.

We publish a range of regulatory guides to assist the organisations and entities that we regulate.

The Codes are practical guides approved under the WHS Act.

The specific requirements and how to comply with the legal duties of the WHS Act.
