On 11 April 2019 the Australian Government assumed a caretaker role, with an election to be held 18 May 2019.
Information on websites maintained by Comcare will be published in accordance with the Guidance on Caretaker Conventions until after the election and conclusion of the caretaker period.

Medical practitioners

A legally qualified medical practitioner under the SRC Act includes a general practitioner, a specialist such as an Orthopaedic Surgeon, Psychiatrist, or a Dentist.

Roles of medical practitioner

  • Assessment and diagnosis
  • Provision of treatment
  • Referrals for specialist treatment
  • Assessment of work capacity and medical certification
  • Provide advice on alternative duties or workplace modifications
