On 11 April 2019 the Australian Government assumed a caretaker role, with an election to be held 18 May 2019.
Information on websites maintained by Comcare will be published in accordance with the Guidance on Caretaker Conventions until after the election and conclusion of the caretaker period.

Medical practitioners - roles and responsibilities

Claims for medical expenses or time off work must be accompanied by evidence from a medical practitioner. Medical practitioners are responsible for:

  • Providing treatment for an injured employee as well as accurate medical assessments of their capability to return to work.
  • Providing advice on alternative duties or modifications to the workplace.
  • Making sure the case manager or approved rehabilitation provider is informed of the injured employee's abilities so duties can be tailored to suit the injured employee's capacity.
  • Monitoring and support the progress of the return to work effort.
  • Being available and accessible for case conferences or workplace visits.
