Diversity recruitment programs

For: Information seekers

Comcare participates in several focused recruitment and internship programs as part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion in our workforce.

Indigenous Australian Government Development Program

Comcare is proud to participate in the Indigenous Australian Government Development Program (IAGDP).

This entry-level employment and development program is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who are interested in working in the Australian Public Service (APS).

The 12-month program aims to significantly contribute to improving employment opportunities, experiences and outcomes for Indigenous Australians in the APS. We value and draw on the skills, capability, unique life experiences and perspectives that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees can bring to the workplace.

Participants receive on-the-job training, guidance, and structured learning and development, including a Diploma of Government (Project Management) to help expand capabilities and boost confidence to build a career in the APS.

Importantly, the program amplifies Indigenous voices within the APS, which boosts cultural competence and strengthens the capability of the APS to make inclusive and equitable policy across Government to benefit communities.

For more information visit the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations website or send an email to entrylevel@dewr.gov.au

Indigenous Apprenticeships program

The Indigenous Apprenticeships program is a pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to start their career in the APS.

The 12-month program offers permanent roles across:

  • administration
  • policy and program development
  • service delivery
  • finance
  • human resources
  • information technology.

To apply or for more information visit the Indigenous Apprenticeships program.

Indigenous Graduate Pathway program

This program provides a pathway to employment in the APS and promotes the APS as an employer of choice among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tertiary graduates.

Successful candidates gain diverse hands-on experience in a range of business areas as well as practical experience in their area of expertise.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tertiary graduates join the Comcare Graduate program and participate in a 12-month, structured and comprehensive learning and development program.

After successfully completing the program, graduates continue to work in a permanent full-time position.

To apply or for more information visit the Indigenous Graduate Pathway program on the Indigenous Careers portal.

Stepping Into Internship program for university students with disability

We participate in the Australian Network on Disability's Stepping Into Internship program, which is a paid internship program designed for university students with disability.

The program places students into the workplace for 152 hours of paid work over the summer or winter semester break.

Successful applicants benefit by gaining valuable work experience and learning new skills and knowledge.

The program can be life-changing for participants and has been proven to close the gap in employment after graduation for students with disability.

To apply or for more information visit Stepping Into Internship program on the Australian Network on Disability website.
